ONLINE AVAAZ PETITION
“HANDS OFF OUR SACRED RIVERS AND SNOW LEOPARD SANCTUARY”
In the region where we have realised a number of projects, three private companies want to build hydropower plants. They are already illegally (at night) building a road, this without permission from the local communities of marginalised indigenous groups.
With our introduction and the official Avaaz* petition, we hope we can stop this project with your voice … WE NEED YOUR VOTE

NEW REQUEST MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FOR A MATERNITY
• MAY 2024 • We have received a second request for medical equipment for a maternity. The 3 new rooms (+ toilet and bathroom) are part of a basic health post. The staff consists of a nurse, a midwife and a medical assistant. There are 45-50 people a day, 70% of whom are women. 4000-5000 people live in this area and surrounding areas. It is accessible by road, the nearest big city is 4 hours’ drive, to Kathmandu it is 12 hours. It is a forgotten region in the north-east where little help is provided.
We, Saano kosheli, need some help financing this project.
SOME STATISTICS
• NEPAL 2024 • 21 neonatal deaths in every 1,000 live births (in the UK 3 neonatal deaths in every 1,000 live births). The government’s target is to reduce neonatal mortality to 12 deaths per every 1,000 live births by 2030, but public health experts, however, are sceptical of its success. Fifty percent of the neonates die in the first 24 hours of birth. Hypothermia, infection, low birth weight, premature birth, and abnormal birth asphyxia are among the leading causes. 85 percent of all deaths among children under the age of five take place before a child’s first birthday.

2023 SUMMARY
SUMMER & CHRISTMAS MARKETS
Thanks to the sale of our Nepalese handicraft products in 2023 at the summer (Fournols, Sauxillanges) and Christmas markets (Sauxillanges, Vic le Comte, St Germain l’Herm, St Genès la Tourette) we were able to raise a significant amount of money to start new projects. This year again, we will be present at several markets in the ♥︎ Livradois region (Auvergne), where our products are highly appreciated.
We would like to thank everyone who bought from us and/or donated.
We also want to thank all the Nepalese artisans from whom we buy for their commitment, dedication and beautiful handicrafts. Of course, we like to thank everyone who follows and supports Saano Kosheli in any way.

♥︎ 2023 VARIOUS PROJECTS REALISED
thanks to your donations or purchases:
• Distribution of packets of reusable and washable sanitary pads to 295 girls/women (health, liberating, cost-saving, work …)
– Educational programmes on ‘menstruation’, a taboo subject (education, liberating, instructional …)
• Restoration of yak herdsman trail at 3500m (safety and food security …)
• Vaccination program of 550 yaks from 4000m (protection of yaks, culture, tradition, work …)
In November we could finally go to Nepal again where we had quite a program in Kathmandu: seeing our friends and colleagues again, visiting stores and workshops, searching for new products, talking about other projects and buying all materials for the birthing clinic. We also had the opportunity to attend a programme on sanitary pads, celebrate the Diwali festival and time for many other things.
Even when we are not in Nepal, our projects are realised thanks to the cooperation of our Nepalese friends and colleagues, whom we would like to thank immensely for their enthusiasm, commitment and time. It’s very unfortunate that we can’t be there, but thanks to their photos and videos, we can travel with them and witness from a distance.
