NEPAL INFO

A small country sandwiched between two giants, India and Tibet (China). It is 885 km wide between East and West and an average distance of 193 km between north and south.

The altitude varies between 60 and 8848 meters, so there are various climatic zones with a great diversity of natural biotopes. We pass subtropical zones in the lower part from 0 to 700 meters, where bananas, papayas, rice, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and peppers grow. This is where the largest rivers Sun Kosi, Narayani and Karnal flow which ends up in the Ganges. In the temperate and higher zones (700-2300 m), we cross hardwood and bamboo forests, steep terraces with millet, buckwheat, potato, corn, pumpkins, pomelos, wild guavas, nuts and chestnuts. Finally, we find ourselves in the high cold mountains where eternal snow cover the peaks of the Himalayas. In Nepal there are 8 of the highest mountains in the world (Mt Everest 8848,86 m, Kanchenjunga 8586 m, Lhotse 8516 m, Makalu 8485 m …).

The population is a kaleidoscope of cultures; Indian, Tibetan and Burmese. Hinduism coexists with Buddhism. It is a complex and very hierarchical society of castes and groups, often with their own external characteristics, their language, their clothes, their architecture and their customs.

Nepal has a long history dating back to the beginning of the Christian era. It is the birthplace of Buddha. The country has been closed for foreigners for many years and managed to preserve its traditions and its immense cultural wealth. A negative aspect of these years of isolation is the poverty associated with it, but the positive aspect is that the people have preserved their bright smile full of humanity.
